2026-05-15 22:16:02 +02:00 | 40 commits to main since this releaseThe plugin now updates itself from GitHub releases. After this version is installed, future releases will show up in your WordPress dashboard as standard update notices — no manual zip upload needed.
How it works
A new
LRob_Calendar_Updaterclass (no external library, ~200 lines) hooks two WordPress filters:pre_set_site_transient_update_plugins— when WordPress checks for plugin updates, the updater hitsapi.github.com/repos/LRob-FR/wp-lrob-calendar/releases/latest, compares the release'stag_nametoLROB_CALENDAR_VERSION, and injects the release-zip URL into the update transient when a newer version is available.plugins_api— the "View version details" modal pulls the release info from GitHub, with the release body rendered from Markdown into HTML for the changelog.
The GitHub API response is cached in a WordPress transient (12 hours on success, 1 hour on failure), well clear of GitHub's 60 req/hour unauthenticated rate limit even on shared hosting where many sites share an outbound IP.
The updater loads on every request — not just admin — so WP-cron-driven update checks and WP-CLI invocations (like Plesk's WordPress Toolkit nightly scan) also pick up new releases.
Compatibility
- Standard WordPress "Updates" page: ✅
- Auto-update toggle in the Plugins list: ✅
- WP-CLI (
wp plugin update): ✅ - Plesk WordPress Toolkit nightly scans: ✅ (uses WP-CLI under the hood)
- Plesk's "Smart Updates" (visual diff) feature: probably bypassed (that feature is wp.org-only), but regular auto-updates still apply.
Install
Same as before: download
lrob-calendar-1.1.1.zipbelow and upload via WP Admin → Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin. This is the last time you'll need to do that manually — future releases will surface as in-dashboard updates.Downloads
